This guy is playing dobro - one of the many stringed instruments bluegrass pickers play. I have seen the guys he's playing with many times over the years, but this kid I just heard for the first time a couple of years ago. (he was probably still in school until then..lol) This guy is so good on that dobro, even the old timers smile when they hear him. I took this at ISO 800 and I got a lot of noise. Hopefully I got rid of the worst of it.

Hi Shelly,

Yes, there's a lot of noise, there's nothing sharp but I think that 'rough" feeling goes perfectly with bluegrass!

This is a visual restitution of something that comes from the guts, the roots and I think your image complements perfectly the subject.

Have a great weekend!

André

Hi, Shelly -

A nice arrangement, all the figures centrally located and none of them bleeding over the edge. I really like the way the fiddler's bow is in motion, while the mic in front of him makes it clear it's him that's moving, not you. Oh, the kid's not bad, either. :-)

Regards,
Dan

Shelly...
Today's your day !

Today - you play the fiddle - we dance as you play !

Nothing but the sheer enthusiasm for your baby...

Three men - three flawless figures.
Three faces and ALL OF THEM are speking loud and clear (Yes ! Even the one behind the mike ! (actually - he is the one who most enjoys your photo session with them - I presume (:-))).

The hands... The instruments... Their movement...

Gosh...

You did it girl, this time...
You really did it !!!

Big time !!

You deserve the best weekend their is !

George

Hi Shelly,
Fine action shot that captures the joy of these musicians young and old alike. The blur of the bow and the hands makes this lovely image come to life.

hello Shelley,
a good subject. Nice lighting and a good atmosphere.I like the motion seen by the movement of the bow and hand. Well composed. Would like to have been there.
regards
Bev

Hello Shelly
Atmosphère de fête bien rendu, cela donne envie d'y être!
Bruit en effet bien traité, on ne le remarque que dans les tons sombres comme les boiseries, sinon impeccable !

Amicalement.

Great shot Shelly.
You have captured movement in his hand as well as in the fiddle player. I think a little grain is good here as it adds to the mood. I love Bluegrass. It's so lively and cheerful. I used to take lessons on the steel guitar when i was a teenager oh so long ago.
Cheers
Phil

Hi, Shelly.
As an introduction to my comment : I love Delta Blues and Bluegrass. You can never do wrong when posting anything on the subject.
And if you look at the small picture on my TE intro you'll see me playing a vintage Dobro...
This is a great jukejoint rough 'n tumble shot, PERIOD! You perfectly captured the atmosphere, too bad you are not allowed to post Mp3s to soundtrack it!!!
It really takes me back to those days (July 1994) I spent in northwestern SC right across from Rabun County, GA., on the Chattooga River. That's... DELIVERANCE COUNTRY to y'all. Been playing guitar at Bull Sluice, sitting on a rock... Burt Reynolds, Ned Beatty, John Voight and Ronnie Cox were here too, in 1972...
Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
You have a great weekend, I'll see ya soon.
Ciao,
F.

Hi Shelly,
Interesting capture, but I know it isn't the taken of night shots. This theme is very beautiful, but I suggested in the next time you'll reduce the number of F/stop, for example, I think something around F/6 and you can do it because your lens is 18/200. The colors are beautiful and the contrasts, too. Please, look this picture, I took in almost situation that you took yours. So, the picture is beautiful, but I think that you could do it better. Best Regards, Consuelo

By your photo, dear Shelly, I see for the first time such a kind of instrument. Interesting, DOBRO in Serb means "good" adverb.
Thank you Shelly.
Best regards....Branko

Hello Shelly,

I like this shot very much, as I like all the images you've produced of musicians in action. The focus is a little soft, but understandable considering the frantic motion. Dialing the aperture up two stops to f/5.6 then f/4, and increasing the shutter speed to 1/250 second would have frozen the motion, but decreased the depth of field. It becomes almost a matter of taste what would be best, until actually tried out

Warm regards and thanks for introducing me to the "dobro."

Bulent

Hi Dearest Shelly
I tried a WS; it was ok for the white balance but worse for the noise, that's why I do not post it.
But your music composition is well done and I will be glad to have with you the next dance.
Sincères amitiés.
