Under the fighter Photo

Photographer’s Note

This was taken at Virginia Beach at the Oceana NAS airport a few miles from the Beach. I was a few hundred feet from the runway threshold wactchin these big, fast and noisy birds, most were F-18, doing practice.

Hello Pierre,

With a exposure of f/5.6 this very high for these fast noisy birds, I've never a F18 so close by seen, nice detailed picture, I hear here the fast plane with more than 110 dBa.

Hi Pierre. I totally forgot how many of these jet fighters you'll see in Virginia Beach. A couple times I've been buzzed so low I could read the warning stickers on the bottom of these things with the naked eye and being made deaf at the same time. You nailed the exposure to get perfect focus and a sharp picture. This is where having a fast lens is critical. Excellent shot Pierre.

Superb sharpness & good graphism, of the darker jet, against the lighter blue sky, which provides a simple, uncluttered bg. I like the tight framing too. Merci!

A great capture, Pierre.
The clarity of the shot is excellent. I like the way we can see so many markings on the fighter - which are also the 'tricky stickers' that I have to put on my son's model planes.
Well framed. Very original.

Bonjour, cher Pierre,
Image impressionnante restituant parfaitement l'ambiance qui se dégage lors d'un passage de ce type d'avion. Le bruit assourdissant crée déjà des frissons, il faut avoir des mains d'acier pour ne pas trembler au passage de cet avion.
Les détails sont parfaitement retranscrits.

Bon soir Pierre, due to the use of your long lens, your graphic framing and the hard contrast, this bird looks like serious business. The crispness and the rendition of the details is xcellent. Very good.

Voici une vue bien impressionnante de ce F18 vue de dessous et avec une diagonale tres dynamique. Cet appareil est a mon avis un des plus gracieux lorsqu'il est en vol, mais il apparait vraiment bestial dans ses moindres details, vu ainsi rapproche...
Une image inhabituelle et interessante.
