Photographer's Note

Town of Buckland chartered in 1798 with streets and lots on both sides of Broad Run.This property transferred in 1853 to Richard Bland Lee, nephew of Lighthorse Harry Lee of Leesylvania.

Buckland Tavern now restored as a dwelling, served during the early 19th century as a refreshing stop on the Alexandria-Warrenton Turnpike. This historic home is so stately and beautiful as it faces the water of Broad Run. I love the charming lighted candles in the window year round as I pass by on my way to and from the library where I work.
