Yesterday was my second anniversary on TrekEarth. I would like to thank everyone for their continued critiques and friendship. I continue to learn more everyday. In the coming year I hope to be able to be more active on TE than I was able to be this past year.

We are looking at air traffic from Dulles International Airport in Northern Virginia which is very close to me. The water is Beaverdam Reservoir which is a water reservoir for the county next to me. They keep it very primitive as in gas boats aren’t allowed and no development or farming takes place next to it to keep the water quality as high as possible.

Recently I upgraded my copy of DxO to version 4.1 which included their new film pack. It lets you process your images so they look just like your favorite films. I saw this small sunset a few weeks ago and decided it would be a candidate for Velvia 50. Whenever I see a good sunset and I'm at home I always run over to Beaverdam Reservoir, which is less than 5 minutes from my house and take some pictures. Well I was a little late getting home from work to see this but I was afforded the view of the stars. I kept seeing airplanes flying by so I decided to see what I could do. This was complete guesswork because it was quite dark out and I was using the 10 second countdown timer on my camera so as to not touch the D70 so I had to guess when to push the shutter for when I thought the planes would be crossing my view.

From here on when I use the DxO film pack I will in the note let everyone what filter I used.

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Hi Stephen,
it seems there is some traffic jam in the air in your place :)
Anyway very nice colors, and I'm a little bit jaleous that you can see the stars so distinctly.
Are you sure you do not have a dozen of dead pixels ? :D
Thanks for sharing !
Guillaume

Hi Stephen,
Beautiful colors in a nice composition. The view of the stars in the background is amazing. Nice work, thanks for posting it.

Fantastic shot Stephen! The sunset colours are wonderful, and the lines in the sky from the planes is very unsual. Full marks for creativity and execution too - the stars are perfectly sharp. Great work, and hope we see you on here for many more years!

Hi Steve,
The light and color are pure magic!! The lights of the planes look like a line of stars, the reflction of the sunset is beautiful. I also like the way the lights angle one way and the clouds another. An outstanding second anniversary post!!! You share your knowledge so generously, that I have learned a great deal from you. Thank you so much!!

Well Good evening Stephen and happy 2 years on TE! I trust you can be more active than this past year too.

I do like this sunset capture with the wonderful colors here. I am curious as cat over those jet line streaks and concluded that the reason why the red dots appear on the plane line is that the light is flashing! Correct? Thanks for sharing!

Hi Stephen & congratulations on your second TE anniversary!

A superb sunset, with excellent colour, sharpness & saturation. I like the unusual jet trails. Tfs!

Hi Steve,
Congratulations on completing your second year on TE, I hope we'll have the opportunity to meet (with Norbert as well) before we turn to the status of TE dinosaurs ;-)
I like this one, it's very clean in the rendering of colors and overall clarity, the 8 seconds froze the water in a good way to allow for a nice glowing reflection of the warm tones, we do see many stars in the sky and the planes traces add this extra something to make this picture look different, well done !
I wish you Merry Christmas and a good move into the new year,
Jean-Yves

Bonjour Stephen,
Daniel.

Fantastic colours and composaition in your sharp shot , the trails in the sky are very interesting .
Stefano.

Happy 2nd birthday.
This would be a great shot without the planes but they add a great extra element. The last colours of the sun amd the stars in the sky make this a wonderful image.
If there had only been one plane we could have pretended it was Santa.:D.

Hi Stephen,
I would say this is a most successful shot because my eyes have continued to stare at it for the better part of two minutes...The sky tones, the exposure level and the special effects seem bang on. I like your choice of proportions here too, with the horizon low and the trees nicely silhouetted. I have not taken to the DXO quite as well as you, but occasionally use it. All the best of the holiday season, Steve.

ahh.. there are so many UFOS, and so many stars
wonderful sky, nicely captured Stephen
love those orange light and it's reflection too
merry christmas and happy new year

Hello Stephen! Very neat shot - no noise or grains whatsoever. The colors of the sunset/reflections and those UFO-like lights are the main attractions here. I also like the silhouette of the leafless trees. You're lucky to have a beautiful sunset view at home! rgds.

Hi Stephen,
Sunset images scarcely gets any better than this. Wonderful colours. Those trails have been beautifully captured.

Hi Stephen - wonderful color transition from orange to indigo, I like the sci-fi vibe given by the air traffic and stars, I have no idea what a film pack is, so I guess it's a software that makes a digital image look like a scan?, what's the point? Merry Christmas and happy (belated) anniversary.

Hola Stephen.
Congratulation for your second anniversary in TE and I hope that you will be able to give us a little more of your time next year.
Very interesting way to see the lines of colors left by the airplanes in the Sky, also the Star's are so clear, so neat. Beautiful sunset with very good reflection on the reservoir. Good colors and great POV.
I didn't undertand "I upgraded my copy of DxO to version 4.1" Please if you have some time free let me know. Thank you.
Merry Christmas.

Hi Stephen
I like this. The scintillating lights of the plane had a very unusual and appealing effect.
The setting sun was giving you a good show, but the planes were a welcome extra.
Well done and an idea that I will try one of these days.
Merry Christmas.
Charles

What a great spot to capture the night coming Steve. Hope to be back soon... Merry Christmas.

Hi Steve, and congrats on your 2-year TE anniversary. The effect of the long exposure resulting in the colorful trails in the sky is pretty cool, and blends surprisingly well into the quiet-looking setting of the landscape and the vivid colors in the sky and on the horizon. Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2007!

Hi Stephen, Beautiful. Sunset is very pretty with awesome colors, and the planes - nice adornment. I should check out the Beaverdam Reservoir one of these days. Happy holidays. Danilo

Bonjour, mon ami Stephen,
Philippe

Special light effect and great begin of night composition, nicely framed. Merry Chrismas, thanks for sharing in 2006 !

Hi Stephen,
the sky is beautiful but I like how you played with long exposure to add interest to this shot.
The effect is excellent.

I really like this one Steve;

Excellent exposure, with rich colors from the setting sun. Nice composition with the horizon in the lower part of the frame. The addition of the light trails and stars really makes this one special. Nice clouds adding some contrast in the sunset.

Well done Steve!
- Dan
