Photographer’s Note

This is an autumn scene at the Arlington National Cemetery. I live not too far from here, and I enjoy visiting the place on a regular basis especially at this time of the year.

For almost 4 million people who visit annually, the cemetery represents many different things. For some, it is a chance to walk among headstones that chronicle American history, for many it is an opportunity to remember and honor the nation's war heroes, and for others it is a place to say a last farewell during funeral services for a family and friend.

Une belle image aux couleurs d'automne. Toutes ces tombes blanches bien alignées dégagent une atmosphère de paix comme on peut en ressentir dans ce genre de lieu.

Hello Danilo,

There is no doubt, autumn is the season that dresses cemeteries best!
And the fine trees here add a lot of character to the scene, the foliage makes a fine contrast both on the branches and on the ground...
Effective point of view to emphasise the rows of headstones!

I remember your photo "the cost of war",taken at the same place and this one is fantastic,too.

a great composition in this picture.

A very atmospheric image with these long rows of gravestones stretching out under the trees in their autumn colours; the poignancy is heightened by the fallen leaves scattered around the foreground graves. Very good light and colours.

a little bit ghoulish to see someone headstones,but from the other side is a superb Autumn scene with this colorful tree to cover almost the whole Cemetery.The lines of the headstones,create a great depth that disappear on the far distance.Well done.

This is a striking image, Danilo. Don't know what attracts more, if the foliage on top or the graphic perspective of all the white stones but they make a wonderful combination. Congrats for this superb autumn shot.

Superb autumn scene with the colorful fall trees. Arlington National Cemetery is a sad place but at the same time you did a good homenaje to them capturing this beautiful shot with a wonderful composition.

Those trees and their foliage with superb autumnal colors would be enough to create a wonderful photograph! However, you have perfectly composed with them, by showing those white details, the green grass and the fallen leaves partly covering it! Anyway... it's pretty pleasant and truly nice!

i have been here in one summer many years past. i just could imagine looking at this how beautiful this place could be in the fall. the column of headstones are beaming with joy with these goldenbrown leaves showering their eternal rest! a fitting tribute as well for today's event, memorial day.

This photo makes me think about the movie Garden of stones I have appreciated.
It is an original autumn photo with this opposition between the warm color of the leaves and the white of the tombs.
Very good composition with the lines of stones driving the look in the frame.

A pity that this all have to are, the Arlington National Cemetery.
Perspective through the long way between the trees.
