Arlington Memorial Bridge
Arlington Memorial Bridge designed by the prominent architectural firm McKim, Mead and White was built 1926 - 1932. The bridge is 2,163 feet long and constructed of granite and concrete. It consists of broad arches, a wide roadway and sidewalks crossing the Potomac River. The center of the bridge has a metal draw span, but with the construction of the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge which has no draw span, the span on Memorial Bridge was no longer useful and was made inoperable.
On each end of the bridge are pairs of equestrian statues on identical pedestals. See “Sacrifice,” one of the statues, here.
