Photographer’s Note

I heard the good news yesterday. My doctor called and informed me that she is taking me off quarantine and that it now safe to go back to work. I had been on isolation for the last four months since I was diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB). I am not exactly certain where I contacted this very contagious and dreadful disease. For the last ten years, all my vacations were spent in Southeast Asia and Central America where I go crazy taking pictures. I later learned that worldwide one out of three is infected with TB with majority of these cases in the third world. There are not much TB cases in the U.S., and diagnosed patients are quarantined and visited daily by a nurse from a local health authority to ensure the patient is taking his/her medication which could be as much as 20 pills. Although I need to continue taking my medication for at least another four months, I am so happy I have regained my freedom. Will I travel again to Southeast Asia and Central America? You bet I will, and I can’t wait.

Welcome back!! The photo is wonderful; perfect detail and DOF make the butterfly just POP out at you. The butterfly is the perfect metaphor for your situation.

Congratulations on being released from quarantine, that must have been very difficult. It is indeed imperative that you continue with your meds; those resistant strains are really bad. Of course before the option of medication, many more died of TB than is now the case.

Welcome back ... great to hear from you! I often wonder what happened to you ... last time I heard from you was you were remodelling your kitchen. Excellent news that you're now well. Terrible when an unforseen event happen to our lives just like what you've experienced ... but in the positive side it strenghtens our character and make us appreaciate life better. Great macro photo. It is a kind of photo that I mus want to take on day. Good quality and colors. The black wings constrast very well with the green background.
Maybe a crop on the right side could be a nice thing to do, take a look on my WS.

Long time, no see! I had read something about health problems in your intro some months ago, but I didn't realize it was something that serious! Anyway, what really matters is that everything is OK now, and you have my best wishes for the future! Now you got to leave all behind and start again making plans about journeys to Southeast Asia and Central America!

About the photo:
The photo itself is one of the best macros I have ever seen, with excellent focus, depth of field and brilliant colours! And it's a perfect choice for this kind of ocasion.

Hello Danilo,
good to read that you are back to health and free from quarantine. With the butterfly a good symbol for freedom, well used reduced DOF for that. I like the small region of sharpness, visible at its antennae.

Congratulations on the all-clear from your doctor. It is a terrible illness so I am pleased you are over the worst.
This is a beautiful macro you have posted. It is perfectly sharp with an excellent choice of DOF. I guess you were busy with your camera in your garden while you were isolated.

I´m glad you are FREE again.
The title and the text are curious.
In Brazil the average time for TB treatment is about six months but NO quarantine makes necessary, so far I know it...
