Photographer’s Note
Founded in 1720, the mission was named for Saint Joseph and the Marqués de San Miguel de Aguayo, the governor of the Province of Coahuila and Texas at the time. It was built on the banks of the San Antonio river several miles to the south of the earlier mission, San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo).
San José, as it became known, was the largest of the missions in the area. At its height, the community contained about 300 Indian neophytes sustained by extensive fields and herds of livestock. Viewed as the model among the Texas missions, San José gained a reputation as a major social and cultural center. It became known as the "Queen of the Missions." Its imposing complex of stone walls, bastions, granary, and magnificent church was completed in 1782.

Hello Asa,
A fine composition with a very good point of view. Some nice contrasts between the different elements: sky, stone and greenery. Superb colours and clarity that bring out the detail in the old stonework very well indeed.

Hi Asa,
good composition with an interesting view. The well, the tree and the bushes make a foreground layer before the church. Good contrast against the sky and an interesting architecture with these arches and straight walls and edges. Very much cube based I think.

Hi Asa!
What an extraordinary building! A fantastic church or monastery! The composition is simple but great but what's really impressive are the beautiful colours! Great sharpness and definition, I can almost feel the texture of these old walls. Congratulations!

Hello Asa -
You seemed to have managed the harsh mid day light very well in this image. I do like the interplay of the deep shadows and the light stonework of the old mission. The greens of the shrubbery add some nice color and contrast to the image. Exposure, DOF, etc seem to be right where they belong. But, the image looks just a bit soft to me and could be sharper. Anyway, well seen and done.
Thank you for sharing and have a nice Turkey Day.

Hello Asa,
a phantastic building again with dominating Romanesque (and the original version, not the Neo-version of the 19th century) style from the 18th century! (OK except the dome and one single window.) It looks as massive as a fortress but this is not strange for a Romanesque abbey/mission. Thanks to the well chosen point of view we can see the structure of this magnificent complex.
Best whishes

Hi Asa
I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only one, who has problems with noise in the sky, & using gaussian blur with the right feather. But a superb shot, nonetheless, with a marvellous blue sky, & good sharpness. Tfs!
