Photographer’s Note
I believe these trees are Liriodendron Tulipifera or as we say "Tulip Trees". There were several buds open that I will post later, I just liked the texture and color of this shot. Our weather has been very warm lately and a lot of the trees and plants are budding out.

Great macro shot. Excellent details, very good choice of DOF. The subject is very interesting and this picture shows us the spring is not so far away (Even if in France, it's actually cold, curiously...).

Wonderful shot Stephen. The contrast between the purple flower and the greyish winter surroundings is great, as always in pictures of early spring flowers. I think the composition would have been slightly more relaxed if you left a little more space around the flower, at least to the right of it.

Wonderfull Macro Stephen. Great colour. I'm sure it is magnificant when it blossoms. I can understand why you like this one. The structure of the cover leafs are lovely, very fuzzy :) I like the structure of the flower as well. It looks like paper.
You are good at Macro shots.

Great macro, even capturing the little hair brizzles on this bud. Good colours and depth of field. Well done Stephen.

Such a sharpness! I can almost feel the touch of these gorgeous pappuses of the bud! I love the tiny drops shyly shining there as small jewels. Very good framing and incredible macro shot!

Ditto everybody else on the great details, Stephen - I like the focus right on the purple petal, with the base of the bud in blur. The blurred background branches make a nice mat for this flower bud - are they the branches of the tulip tree? It seems to my memory that this tree isn't very leafy, so that would make this an even better shot - the bud with its own tree - and you should include that in the notes.

This very deffinatley a Magnolia One of the oldest types of flowering plants around. The flower is too purple to be M. soulangiana. My best guess is that it is either M. lilliflora `Nigra` or a modern Hybrid like `Susan`
Most of the flower is very well seen against the out of focus background . down point is that the edges of the flower are blurred which is a shame because other wise its a very good picture.

Hi Steve. The house down the street from where I grew up, in Southern Ontario, had a tulip tree, and I was always amazed at it's beautiful flowers. This shot of yours has helped rekindle some great childhood memories. The DOF is fantastic, and the emerging bloom is wonderful! BTW, I would say this is a tulip tree blossom, at least it sure looks like one to me. Very well taken!
