Photographer’s Note
This is a follow-up to the image I uploaded a couple of days ago of Rice University students assembling what they hoped would be the world's largest model of a carbon nanotube. It was, certified by a federal judge and an astronaut.
This is just a small section of the finished model. Having left my own camera at home (bummer!), I borrowed a small digital we keep in the office, and walked over to Rice's quad periodically to witness the assembly.
Here, over a hundred volunteers are stretched out for over 1,100 feet, from the library at one end of Rice's quad, through the Sallyport (where Rice students pass through when the graduate), and across the street to an open green space, then down the side of one of the streets leading onto the campus. Here, you're just seeing them holding up the section of the finished model that's on the green space.
I cropped the top of the image a little, adjusted the levels in Photoshop, and sharpened and resized it before uploading.
