Photographer's Note

We were yestarday in Houston’s 6th Annual Polish Festival,and also is today Sunday May 6, 2012, second day.

Houston’s Polish Festival is a celebration of all things Polish – the food, the music, the language, the customs and the culture of the Polish people. The Festival is held on the grounds of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church conveniently located at 1731 Blalock Drive, about 1.5 miles north of the Katy Freeway. Featured at the Festival is a large sampling of traditional Polish foods such as pierogi (stuffed dumplings), golabki (cabbage rolls) and kielbasa (sausage) and a huge assortment of traditional cakes, rolls and desserts lovingly prepared by our parishioners. Music for this year’s festival will be provided by Brian Marshall and the Texas Slavic Playboys and Chris Rybak noted Texas accordionist; and traditional Polish songs and dances will be performed by our children’s choir throughout the day.

As part of the festival, visitors will be able to tour our beautiful church constructed in the traditional Polish style and will be able to see our Icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa, the Polish Black Madonna, and learn of Our Lady’s 600 year old history as protector and defender of the Polish nation. In addition, our festival provides a supervised, safe and fun children’s area complete with games, face painting, kids’ snacks and other fun activities to keep the kids entertained. Inside our beautifully decorated parish hall, visitors will find a silent auction full of unique items on which to bid while being entertained by a fine classical pianist. Our entire parish community extends an invitation for everyone to come and celebrate all things Polish with us – Zapraszamy! (We welcome you!)

Polacy bez względu na to w jakim zakątku świata się znajdują, starają się zachować polską mowę, kulturę i tradycje...
widzę, że były stroje ludowe a bigos, gołąbki ?

I love festivals and what they have to offer. I took my grand-daughter to the zoo yesterday where they were celebrating multi-cultural day. My grand-daughter (15 months old) could have cared less about the animals but loved all the different music and dancing, which she herself was free to dance all day long.

Excellent photo Barbara, with superb clarity and fine detail to color and light. Your POV as always leads us down a new path in which we are drenched into your Mind's Eye and come out a better person. Great Job Barbara!!

Hello Barbara,
The organizers of this Polish festival have welcomed the visitors in a lot of different languages. The welcome signs along with the different flags make the entrance gate very colourful.
This picture shows a pleasant and busy atmosphere.
I hope that the festival was a success.
