This unimposing little building on Union Avenue could rightly be called the Birthplace of Rock & Roll. Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison and B.B. King all recorded at Sun Studio, founded by the legendary Sam Phillips in 1950. Elvis Presley actually recorded his first song, "My Happiness" there, reportedly as a birthday present for his mother. The actual microphone he used is still on display. It's still a functioning studio that's been used by U2 and Bonnie Raitt. but is now also a National Historic Landmark. There is a Museum Gallery that features lots of memoribilia as well as original recordings of outtakes and edits from the songs recorded there. The website's pretty cool. You can get more info at
