I've spent a while posting shots on the music of Nashville and Memphis, Tennessee, but it turns out I actually took a few photos of other things in both places during my trip!
This was taken on the ramp coming back into town from the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge over the Cumberland River, which offers a nice view of downtown Nashville. Here, we see modern Nashville - represented by a couple of the city's few but impressive skyscrapers - hovering over older warehouses and stores, including the very character-filled sign for Hats and Boots.

Good morning Andrew,
Neat image, I like how you've put this together. The contrasting architectural styles are compelling, the glass & steel of the high rises against the older, brick exteriors is a great combination. The compressed focal range brings it all together quite nicely, making for a nice, compact urban scene. I would guess a majority of pictures that feature neon signs are night shots, so this one taken during the daylight hours gives it a bit of a different twist. I also really like how this tight framing has created some block type shapes, each building defined in its own space. Great concept and well executed. Have a good day.
All the best,

The contrast between the architectural styles is quite palpable and your framing accentuates it perfectly. I like the lighting and tonal contrasts.

Hats, boots, shapes, lines and colours, contrasting textures and buildings along with a compressed perspective too that gives it a hint of the abstract.

This is a fine combination of old and new, different styles of architecture and different color themes. Both styles are impressive and attractive in their own ways.

Quite fun shot. This indeed describes history of area from country roots to industrial heritage in the form of old warehouses and finally modern skyscrapers in the background. Good tight framing.

la parte bassa contrasta per colori e forme, con la parte alta della foto, dove i palazzi dalle architetture moderne sovrastano le vecchie costruzioni.
Un'immagine che lascia riflettere sull'evoluzione delle cittą.

this is exactly the kind of photography I like the most.Brilliant city scene, which shows us the real character of Nashville!
Different architectural styles closed in your tight frame-they contrast so nicely with each other.
And the Hats and Boots neon sign is a fabulous colorful contribution here,as it helps to animate the whole scene a little bit.
Have a good day

Andrew, interesting shot. I do like the Hats & Boots sign, but the salvage store is equally interesting. Both buildings, particularly the one of the left, look interesting in their own right. The neighborhood in the foreground and the one in the background are probably quite different; I'd love to see a ground-level shot of each as a contrast. Nicely composed shot.

That is a very cool sign, and would bring a smile to the most serious face. Colours and design of it are really funny. Love how you composed this in front of the fine modern architecture, and the angle you chose too, this shot has something for everyone!
All the best

I like both inside and outside photo you took at Tennessee. Besides the forground is a bit dark and the background buildings lighted up, the "cowboy" logo is really atractive. I be curious about Nashville it seems a very different place.
Thanks for share

Old and new, side by side together. I was always amazed how the scenery in american cities can change so completly from one block to the other.
Pleasing composition of a so american scene.
have a good evening

A fine juxtaposition of old and new; the old full of humour and homely, the new, sleek and business-like. The positioning of the cowboy is paramount to making this shot work so well as he grabs immediate attention and from him, he rest of the shot pans out.
Was it George Bernard Shaw who said 'England and America are two countries separated by a common language'? What are piece goods that are being offered by The Salvage Store?
Have a great day,

The neon sign and the old brick buildings contrast wonderfully with the tall, glass-fronted office buildings. A very interesting view of downtown Nashville.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Andrew, nice photograph. I like the the overall composition. The difference of coloured hats&boots shop panel along with brick build houses against strict vertical lines of moder highrises in the background. Well done:)
