At the Elvis Presley Car Museum, on the grounds of Presley's mansion at Graceland.
Elvis was a car nut, and his collection was so impressive that it has been turned into one of the many possible attractions that can be seen at Graceland (along with, for example, his two private jets. Yes, two.) Tough lighting in here again (a bit of a hallmark of this trip for me) but I was able to get a few good shots of some of the exhibits, including this beautiful purple Cadillac set up in front of a recreation of a 1950s era gas station and malt shop.
This one is for John (tyro) as he is also something of a car nut, though I'm guessing he doesn't own three or four Caddys himself...

as a fellow car nut myself, I'm totally drawn to this shot! I certainly don't have the same knowledge/history about cars as John, but we share the same love and passion for them.
Purple isn't the first color choice for a classic car, but i guess if you want to be noticed its a fine way of standing out!
If I were here I could easily hear my girlfriend telling me to 'hurry up'...i'd be here shooting these cars from every angle possible! haha
did you get a photo of the dashboard? the inside?
great subject, love it :)
I'll be leaving for Chile and Peru on May 6th...its coming up soon!

So this is one of the cars the king drove around. It is a beautiful Caddy classic, well restored and maintained. Classic cars have their own charm. Good light management producing vibrant colour hues. Well done

Elvis seems to have been a strange character in many ways, not only concerning eating habits. No doubt a lot of people would love to own a car like this. Its design mixes a certain beauty with a touch of vulgarity. A perfect car for young men who want to pick up girls. I don't know if you noticed it when you took the photo, but the neon lights have created some very nicely curving blue and purple lines on the car.

Low light but great exposure nonetheless. Have to say I'm not a car nut. Now motorbikes... that's my thing.
Nice composition here with the car filling the foreground. I like the way the highlights accentuate the bonnet and that almost neon line down the windshield and hood on the right is a fantastic detail that follows right down onto the fender too.

Thank you so much for your kind dedication!
This, I believe, is a Cadillac Eldorado, a huge American car in which I could perfectly well imagine "The King" driving around. As Craig says, the colour isn't very inspiring but it shows up very well in your photograph which you have managed to capture very expertly in the poor available light.
You have managed very well with that prime 35mm lens almost wide open and at 1/30 second - and you have kept your ISO at a very reasonable 400. The front of the car is perfectly detailed and sharp and, as others have commented, the curving reflections of the strip lights on the ceiling have given you some beautiful reflections on the dark coachwork.

Classic car and such an unusual colour too. The forward facing view right into the grill makes me think of the movie Christine.
So Graceland has a mock petrol station too? I have to say, I knew little about this place, but your shots are showing a fascinating and colorful side to it.
All the best

Nice shot, it's refreshing to see a color not often pictured. My grandparents used to have a Mercedes with just about the same purple shade, which I always thought was quite royal, if you will! :) Tough lighting conditions for sure, but opening the aperture made for that blurred background which works so well here. The straight on approach for a classic like this is a good way to go, it really shows off the form and gives a "coming at you" type of perspective. Seems like a fitting car for someone like Elvis! Thanks for the look, can't wait to see more. Have a great week ahead.
All the best,

Very attractive portrait of this legendary car. Fine genuine American monster, well seen.

Congratulation to John for his collection, these nice Cadillac.
I found during the fifties, the Cadillac one of the most beautiful American cars, but I am a poor man can alone but look at.
Nice found taken with a nice result.
Excellent composition, nice presentation too.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

I think the lighting is excellent and suits the subject to a T. Well framed and exposed and with superb colours and clarity.

Andrew, this was a pretty famous car of his. Interesting shot, with the neon reflection in the windshield and hood. You did a good job with what I guess was not good lighting.

I just love this purple colour... the colour of royalty Andrew and more than fitting for a king! What a magic place, I would love to spend time around these beauties, I'm not a car fan really but there is something so beautifully brash about these old classics. Moody light, the zig-zag reflections of the pink and blue neons across the body and trim of the Cadillac are really good. Difficult light but well handled and a classy shot. Warm regards Rosemary

what a beautiful car! The color is wonderful and I like the lights reflected on it. Nice inclusion of the red gas bombs blured in the background.

Hi dear Andrew, how are you?
Ya another so appealing and eye-catching image in so tasetful color! Straight appraoch makes so sharp and clear prsentation indeed. I like this tasteful purple color indeed. Best tight framework and composition is so authentic as usual.
Thanks for your sharing and have a good day!
marabu61 (9501) 2013-04-23 6:45
Oh what a beauty this car is and the background has been perfectly molded to the decade as well with the old gas pumps and the colored house facade to the right. A true beauty indeed.
have a good day
