Photographer’s Note
Continuing the Memphis in May series...
We didn't just listen to music, drink and eat a bunch of unhealthy foods in Memphis, we actually expanded our horizons with museums, shopping and a combination of the two - visits to antique shops. The most interesting one was also the most dirty and decrepit one - at least to me. I like to dig around, discover things in boxes that maybe got past the purveyor or were lost to all until I uncovered them. Not often you can do that in an antique store, especially in as highly traveled a place as Front St. in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. This place was like that. It specialized more in architectural antiquities, I figure this place has a crew of several men that go into those old, Civil War-era homes that are falling down in the slums and filling trucks with all the useful and interesting items before the places are bulldozed to the ground. There were weathered doors, parts of porches, and as you can see here, tons of old door knobs of every sort.
I hadn't seen any pictures of groups of door knobs here, there are several with one or two - usually still on the door - I have uploaded a couple of those, myself. Maybe you need one of these - I can pick it up for you when I go back down there. That would be a good excuse to spend another weekend in Memphis drinking and carousing the blues!
Anyway, I thought I would include this culturally significant photo into this series, just so you can get the fully rounded Memphis experience...
Have a nice Tuesday, since yesterday was a holiday I have a short week. Doesn't make me feel like going to work any more than usual, though!

Reed,
Interesting shot, and thanks for the note. Overall, the lens distortion has intruded into this shot in a slightly negative way, lessenig its impact somewhat. Perhaps also the downsizing for TE, making the white pillars especially jagged and unpleasing.
Cheers

Hey Reed,
Nicely framed shot of this shop with the buddha in the top right. I thought we were in Asia with this - but no, it's Memphis!
Cheers,

Hi Reed,
An interesting capture, not up to your normal high standard technically, but nevertheless an informative capture, a learning experience. Good note too.
I'll bet you could lose track of time looking through all those door knobs, also good to see the Buddha has made it to Memphis.
How in the hell do people come up with all that stuff, I was going to say junk but as we know one man's trash is another man's treasure.
You have a good week my friend.
Regards
Peter

Hi Reed, I must disagree with Colin and say that I really like the distortion created by the wide-angle lens in this shot. It must have been your intention, otherwise why use the 10-22mmm and why not fix it up in PP? I like the effect, it adds interest (makes me think of your shot of Bubba) and although a door-knob shop is kind interesting (and cooky) the distortion adds to the kookiness in my books. Excellent work, keep pushing the boundaries matey, Lisa.

Yes, what's the point of disguising the fact that you are using an ultra-wide angle lens - exploitation baby! Jeez, some people!
Anyway, a very nice sort of "Old Curiosity Shop"-like image Reed that is inviting and intriguing.
Regards, TW
