[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is Ruby Falls, a waterfall inside a mountain, located near Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ruby Falls is located within a cave system inside Lookout Mountain, and has been a popular attraction since it was discovered in 1928. Leo Lambert, a local cave enthusiast, was exploring the existing Lookout Mountain Cave further by drilling downward from the top of the mountain. At 260 feet down, he found a small passage and after 17 hours, found this 145 foot high waterfall. He then took his wife, Ruby, into the cave to see the waterfall, and named it after her. After much excavation, the cave system was opened up to the public in 1929, and millions have enjoyed Ruby Falls since.

A flowing underground stream, whose source is still unknown, falls from the very top of the chamber shown 145 feet into a pool on the floor of the cave. The size of the waterfall depends on the amount of rainfall. Water from Ruby Falls flows back through the cave and then down another waterfall (which is inaccessible) and into the Tennessee River.

I didn't have much time to photograph the falls since you are led into the cave in groups and the time spent at the waterfall itself is limited. There is a spotlight mounted in the pool at the bottom of the falls which provides the only illumination in the chamber. They had multi-colored lights aimed at the falls that came on at various times, but this was the clearest photo I took.

A tripod would have produced a better picture, I'm sure, but I made do. Tech: Adjusted levels, sharpened.

Cool shot, Robert and very good effort in this low light condition.

Composition originale et interessante, le filet d'eau apparait un peu comme le filament d'une ampoule.

I found your note interesting and informative. It goes well with your photo. Considering the lighting consition and the shutterspeed to get this shot without a tripod, you did well.

I think you took better picture then mine Robert. I know how hard it is to take picture in that cave. It came out pretty good. Here is mine

This waterfall is beautiful, I love the color contrast!!! Amazing!
