Photographer’s Note
Shot in Knoxville, Tennessee's Chilhowee Park as part of the National Street Rod Association's 31st annual "Street Rod Nationals South" event. The show featured more than 3,500 street rods - modernized vintage automobiles that were originally manufactured prior to 1949. The average value of vehicles at the show was in the region of US$28,000, and many featured modern conveniences like four-wheel disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, tilt steering and exotic stereo systems.
The vehicle in this photo was positioned next to Chilhowee Park's lake, and the contrast between brightly sunlit water and cool, shady leather interior captured my eye. I initially wanted the shot without the geese in the background, but they simply wouldn't cooperate, staying in the background for some significant time. Eventually I gave up and took the photo. After cloning them out - easy enough to do - I felt that they actually add a little visual interest to the picture, helping to draw your eye into it.
This photo is reproduced exactly as shot (fully automatic exposure), except for resizing and a slight unsharp mask to account for the softening effect of downsampling the image.
