Photographer's Note

Although the Ocracoke Light on Ocracoke Island NC is one of the smaller lighthouses (certainly not in the same class as the Fabulous Four) it is my favorite on the Outer Banks. This little lighthouse is 75 Ft (23 m) to its 4th order Fresnel lens. The original light was built on a very small island just inside the inlet just south of its current position at the same time as the Cape Hatteras light to its north. The original was destroyed by a lightning strike and rebuilt at the present location in 1823. The town of Ocracoke is also one of my favorite vacation spots especially in the off season (fall and spring). Plenty of good seafood, fine beaches, a slow pace, good fishing, nice people, and fresh salt air.
