Photographer’s Note

This is a re-cropped version of a picture I uploaded a couple of days ago. One comment from my TE peers was a suggestion that I remove some of the frame to give the photo more impact- this is the cropped end product. I have removed the original to give way to a much better one (in my opinion, anyway).

In February 2004 there was a highly irregular snowstorm which dumped one and a half feet of snow on metropolican Charlotte in a two day period.

Unlike in my native Switzerland where this would have been shrugged off like a pesky insect, this was a big deal. Businesses and schools closed and we stayed at home to behold this phenomenal freak of nature.

This picture was taken after the sun had already had a few hours to melt away this white blanket which had enveloped the whole area. You can see the Bradford peartree in the foreground has already had the warmth of the sun clear the snow clean off its branches, which had weighed them down with an aching lourdeur ... just hours before!

I used the door to frame this scene, as it deserves some sort of dark cadre to adorn this unusual picture with a swath of realism, to convey that, as unusual this might look - today's high here in the very place this picture was take is 95°F (35°C) with isolated (subtropical)thunderstorms - this image is what was visible from the comfort of my home, looking out of my front door...
