| This quiet place is one of those all-too-common memorials to those who have died in war. Soldiers and civilians suffered incredibly in this one important battle of the American Civil War. It is in a beautiful location, however, on high bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. My father played in these hills as a child, a period closer in time to the war itself than to the present. |
