Photographer’s Note
The center of Hurricane Katrina passed through the middle of my town at 1:00 p.m. with wind speeds of around 120mph, with wind gusts at 140. Here is what was left of a McDonald's sign, which was at least standing unlike many structures in my town. Keep watching I have several more pictures that I will be posting in the next few days.

Derrick,
This is a very good photo. It really captures the destruction of the hurricane, using two of the most recongizable symbols in the US: the McDonald's sign (gutted), and the flag (at half mast).
It's also very moving to look at some of your earlier photos and see what life looked like there before the hurricane.
I look forward to more of your images.

Good one Derrick! I would have turned the camera sideways to include the battered flag at half mast.
TFS!
