Photographer’s Note
No, this isn't a Halloween costume, but a re-enactment of a Revolutionary War battle. The man on horseback is a member of Von Heer's Provost Corps, taking orders in the middle of a battle at Jerusalem Mills, Gunpowder Fall State Park, Kingsville, Maryland.
The members of Von Heer's take their re-enactment seriously, using language, equipment and behavior which would have been appropriate for the time. However there is one anachronism here. Although photographically attractive, members of the Corps would not have had beards.
Why am I so interested in this Corps and its re-enactments? Besides being a wonderful way to bring history to life and letting people see how people lived before modern luxuries, I have a personal connection. I am the great-great-great granddaughter of one of the dragoons, Private Peter Brown.

Hello Lois, This must be something to see. Excellent shot of the rider, almost as if he had posed for it. Good composition and the combatants in the background lend credibilty to the scene of war. Your note wsa very helpful and made viewing the picture much better. Regards Roger
