Forgotten Faith Photo

Photographer’s Note

On my way to work I had to take a detour because a road was closed. While driving on Lime Kiln Road in Frederick, Maryland I came upon this old, "forgotten" church. It still has, what appears to be, the original bell in the steeple, the stain glass windows have been broken out and the structure is wearing down. It was a rainy gray day which I think set a nice mood for this picture. There aren't many churches of this nature any longer.

HEy Chris.
Now, this is a great shot Chris. It almost looks converted to B&W, but I think I can see faint colors in there. With the amount of abandoned buildings I've come across, I have yet to see an abandoned church...so great job getting this shot. I like the perspective which heightens the looming quality of the church. I like the spare branches lining the shot as they add a little bit of substance to the sky. The church is a little dark, but here it adds to the mood and still retains some faint definition to the sky without burning it out. Great. Some technical sujestions, maybe back up a few feet to get the whole church (could be some unsavory tidbits were in the way though). Also, be careful when you have tall objects at this angle, they can get distorted if your rather close; not so much here, but it is something to be aware of. All in all, very successful.

Great subject!! Good compo and detail. Did you crop the bottom? I'd like to see what's a little lower (doors, steps etc.) in the shot.
