Photographer’s Note

Hello Everybody.
I've had a hard time posting recently, been a bit busy. I've also had a go at organising my pictures a little, so I thought I'd post another shot from this early morning on the river. Taken on my way into work, this is another frame shot when I took my earlier post "Mama 'Taint Long Fo Day". Showing one of the many boats that set off into the river just before sunrise hoping to bring in a few bushels of crabs.
Crab harvests are at record lows right now, but they seem to be holding where they are and this year was better than some recent days past. Having strung their trot lines maybe days earlier, the boats head out along the line to retrieve their catch. Sometimes there might only be a few dozen after a long days work. Other times these fishermen arive back with many bushels. Crabbing is inconsistant work, but it is a tradition and there is always a demand for the famous crustacean. As a matter of fact, the demand outpaces the supply and many famous restaurants that got their start in Maryland exclusively use crabmeat imported from China and elsewhere along the Pacific rim. Still, there is nothing like crab out of the Chesapeake and its many tributaries.

Thanks for stopping by,
Chris.

Converted, frame, shrink.
