Photographer’s Note

This is a photo of the USS Constellation restored. Built in the early 1850's The USS Constellation was commissioned mainly for diplomatic duties. She disrupted the slave trade by overtaking three slave ships and freeing the slaves. After doing various duties throughout the war she became a receiving ship for many years.
In the late 1800's she became a practice and training ship for Naval Academy midshipmen.
Decommissioned in 1933 the Constellation was re-commissioned in 1940 by President Roosevelt as a national symbol. Again decommissioned in 1955 she was then taken to where she rests still today in Baltimore, Maryland.
Much restoration has been, and is still being done to preserve her beauty.
