As Mom Looks On Photo

Photographer’s Note

I attended a "house concert" last night where two talented young artist, Cheri Arnett and Vanessa Peters were playing. A house concert is when one opens their home to the purpose of providing a venue where an artist can play to a small intimate audience. In this case Vanessa was on tour in the area and a house concert was arranged in Annapolis.

While I was busy looking for angles to shoot, I noticed this young lady enthralled by the music and had to snap a picture. I especially like the way I caught her mom looking on as though she was enjoying the music vicariously through her young daughter. For those who know my work, people are not one of my usual subjects, so when I stumble on a nice picture, I am easily thrilled.

Spot on subject, beautiful image, tones and sharpness extremely natural, the flash did work to perfection. The rose is a great addition to fill the bottom left of the frame.

I hope you do more portraits, you caught this one at the perfect moment of motherly attention. Framing could not be better, IMO. Thumbs up!

This came out really nice, Ned, and not being much of a people photographer myself I can easily relate to how elated you must have felt getting this result. The absorbed look and tilted head of the girl are great, but the detail that gives the impact to the photo is indeed the inclusion of mom looking at her daughter. Beautiful capture of this moment.

For a landscape/nature photographer, you could be surprising with this shot. Three things draw people attention to this photo Ned. It starts with the can't- be-bothered-right-now look of the little girl. And the endearing, loving look of her mum. And the rather big red rose on her lapel.

Great composition, very nice capture of the expressions here. The colours are fantastic.
