Photographer’s Note

Yesterday marked the 2nd anniversary for hurricane Katrina slamming into the Gulf Coast in Louisiana, and specifically New Orleans. This is a view of one of many houses in the 9th Ward, an area devastated by the hurricane as well as the flooding after the levies broke. 2 years later and the “X” is seen every where on homes.... a technical search and rescue sign that turned into a symbol of devastation around this neighborhood. The top quadrant indicates the date, in which the structure was searched. The right, if any hazards were identified. The bottom is the number of people (dead or alive). The left is the government agency that conducted the search.
