Photographer’s Note
An aligator is rising up out of the swamp.
Taken at Alligator Bayou, located 15 minutes from Baton Rouge.
Nearly 1,500 acres were acquired, 901 of which are preserved as is in perpetuity through a national non-profit organization, Bluff Swamp Wildlife Refuge & Botanical Gardens. Today this area is home to giant old-growth bald cypress trees, alligators, snakes, turtles, owls, white-tailed deer, frogs, birds and many other species.

Hello Adrienne,
You took risk to be so close of this animal. Are you sure it was a real one? ;-)
You have well placed the alligator in the diagonal, what just a pity the long grass partially covering the animal, but I would have not went to remove it.
Yves.

Hi Adrienne,
nice one!
Only... next time keep in mind they can easily leap 16 to 20 ft. in an eye-wink, and outrun any human being on solid ground for 30 yards at least. I personally witnessed the first part at Honey Island Swamp, out of Slidell. The gator almost crashed into our boat. We got too close to... take pictures!
Glad you made it in one piece.
Warm regards,
Fulvio.
