Photographer’s Note
Most of the skyline photos I've seen of Louisville are fairly typical, taken from a similar location on the Indiana side of the Ohio River. I've tried to capture it from a more unique perspective. The wood in the foreground is an accumulation of driftwood near the McAlpin Dam. This photo was taken at Sunrise.

Richie: couldn't perceive the great sharpness and color scheme of this fine image. Perfectly straight horizon and fine DOF here. regards, c

Hi Richie,
great decision regarding chosen POV (point of view). I like this relationship between build artificial structures versus broken natural wood. Great light balance and excellent image quality. Great work!
Kind regards,

Hi Richie!
This is a good image, with beautiful colors. I like the composition; the highrises in the background and the lot of driftwood in the foreground with the river.
Thanks for sharing!

The driftwood definitely helps fill the fg with interesting patterns, I also like the almost sepia tone, good timing. I can't help but notice a bright blue object hidden under the driftwood near the bottom left corner.

Hello Richie,
Warm colors, good composition but more important for me the contrast between skyscrapers and woods..

Indeed a very different view. The wood at the fg gives something sad to the image but it is the reality that you captured very well with wonderful light.

Always good to try a non-cliched composition ;) My own feeling with this one is that the foreground is a little too dominant - to the point of being distracting from your main subject. With a complex foreground like that I would look for options for simplification - one simple idea would be to add some kind of graduated mask to darken the foreground slightly.
The sky color is great, but I keep being distracted by the foreground. The good thing is if you live around here you can easily go back and experiment when the light is right.

This is well done with excellent skill Richie, compliments, the inclusion as background of the woods is a classic idea and you have well captured in this image all the the beauty of this landscape.
Ciao

Bonjour Richie
Idée originale qui oppose le désordre apparent des éléments naturels avec les symboles de la vie moderne que sont ces buildings. Apparence trompeuse.
Belle lumière, bonne profondeur de champ.

Hi Richie,
Very pleasant vew of the city from a very good POV, with nice reflections, fine lighting and -what I like best- this original and interesting foreground. Excellent work. Congratulations!

Richie, congratulations on a sometimes very hard skyline to photograph because of the juxtaposition of the sun rising behind the skyline and never lighting it from an angle to show great detail in the buildings and the Ohio River. I speak from experience because I have been to this location many times, but never thought to make the composition as you have done here. A+Excellente! Being a native of Louisville I have several photos of around the same area posted on TrekLens and here on TrekEarth. I would appreciate any and all comments or criticisms on those if you would be so kind as to check out my galleries. I am relative new to these web sites, so my gallery at this time is very limited. I don't ask for compliments, only comments. One thing I would have done differently to this photograph would to have saturated it a bit more to enhance the colors and beautiful clouds at sunrise. I will definitely add this to my Louisville archives if for nothing else to be used a a desktop screen background. I'm putting you on my favorites' list, not only because of your Louisville photos, but the excellent gallery you have exhibited. Thank you very much.
