Photographer’s Note
Since this site's motto is "learning about the world through photography", I thought I'd share with you a typical sight to be found in the country side of the State of Georgia this time of year.
Halloween is a big celebration in the United States and is (as most holidays are) a very commercial affair. You would not believe the myriad of products that can be purchased in the stores. And, as you can see in this post, not all of them are of aesthetic value!
And this was not an isolated display of kitsch - the entire country side was filled with this kind of stuff, as you can see in the workshop.
Have a nice weekend and for those of you who are into it - Happy Halloween! :-)

Hallo Linda! Liebe Gruesse + schoenes Weekend, Barbara.

Beautifully done shot, Linda.
Great sharpness, marvelous light and contrast, superb composition. The workshop though.... Oh, good heavens. Where on earth do people even find room to STORE all that junk?? Much less go to all the trouble of setting it up. Oy vey. LOL.

Hi Linda,
Good representation of Halloween. And I wonder about the tractor connection?
Thanks for sharing,

Hallo liebe Linda,
schoenes Wochenende

Hi Linda, Certainly an imaginative shot. Good work for a night shot. Your DOF causes the main figure to dominate and enhance the picture. I agree with some of your comments on Halloween. Here in the US, you will find people spending money on costumes and masks when it probably should be used to feed their children. We have spent several Halloweens in the San Francisco area, where people spend thousands of dollars to create a frightening environment to scare the trick or treaters. What a waste. Having said that, I guess All Saints Day, Halloween etc came from ancient times with the Druids, Celts and et al. They apparently found enjoyment in practicing witches and goblins etc. Big money maker for some of the stores here in the US. Just got a notice that the ski lifts will be operating soon in the Garmisch area. Geez. Regards. Roger

Hi Linda,

Hi Linda, your photo made me smile. When I was growing up in Australia we never really celebrated Hallowe'en. Although I notice now the kids are really getting into it. I love the kitsch but it also sends a message about the commercial nature of this festivity which once was a spiritual one I am sure, but is no longer. It is well composed and I like the blurred DOPF. And I hope you were given plenty of sweets trick or treating :) Enjoy what's left of your Sunday, Lisa.

Hello Linda,
Yes we do love our Halloween here, it can be very much fun with the children dressing up and go trick or treating for candy, even the adult have to join in the fun, including myself, for one day you can be what you always wanted to be. Scary or cute or beautiful. I was the beautiful one and sexy too :) I don't know if I have photo to show you. Maybe tomorrow I will post workshop for you if I find it.
Very nice shot here, good color, nice details of the decoration. We also spend lots of money for the occasion too.

Bonjour Linda,
daniel.
