Photographer’s Note
This is the daily scene on the fishing pier at Fort DeSoto Park in St. Petersburg, Florida. Fort DeSoto is the southernmost point in Pinellas County, and juts out into Tampa Bay. Mostly men (but some women as well) fish from the pier with rod & reel and cast nets from dawn 'til dusk. Stationed at regular intervals along the pier are fish cleaning tables where the catch can be cleaned, scaled and fileted.
It was pretty crowded on the pier this particular day, and it was hard to get a decent shot of what was occuring. The man on the right is cleaning a fish, and has already sliced a couple into filets which are piled on the table to the left.
Visible in the background is part of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, which spans the mouth of Tampa Bay.
Cropped & sharpened.
