Photographer’s Note

This big mug was my home for nearly two years. Civilians did all the shipboard work and we naval personnel handled communications. We went from port to port to port in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. If you look to the sides you'll see the sailboats and get an idea of the size of that ship. When we came back to the states we were (kind of) home ported in Panama City, Fl. Not quite sure where we were anchored out when that picture was taken.
Each MPS squadron carries sufficient equipment and supplies to sustain about 15,000 Marine Corps Air Ground Task Force personnel for up to 30 days. Each ship can discharge cargo either pierside or while anchored offshore using lighterage carried aboard. This capability gives the Marine Corps the ability to operate in both developed and underdeveloped areas of the world.
