The Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC is an incredible piece of architecture and interior design in a beautiful location, between the Washington Monument about a half mile north and Arlington National Cemetery about a half mile south, across the Potomac. It's one of the can't-miss attractions should you visit Washington.
It was built in the 1920s in the exterior form of a Greek Temple. In addition to the statue, the interior contains carved inscriptions of two of Lincoln's most famous speeches, the Gettysburg address and his second inaugural --- each short enough to be on a wall and readable in a couple of minutes, yet elegant, clear, and meaningful.

How appropriate that I should see your latest photograph just now - last night I was watching on TV Robert Redford's movie "The Conspirator".
I assume that the light here was extremely poor and I can see from your exif data that you were pretty much pushing things to the limit with an ISO of 6400 but, nonetheless, you have managed this photograph extremely well indeed. O.K., there's a little "noise" but that is unavoidable and, to my mind at least, it doesn't detract from the quality of the image at all. The lighting (and your use of it) is superb and Lincoln's statue stands out proudly against a much darker background. Yet we can still clearly read the dedication to him on the wall above.
A very well and thoughtfully composed photograph with lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details throughout.

Hello Roger. Lincoln, - a man of ideals. An impressive monument. The former president of the United States has inspired many people around the world. In the mystical light he seems lifted out of the everyday life.
Best rgds, Wolfgang.

Hello Roger - A shot with impact. Your upward look at Lincoln and the lighting raises him to almost god-like stature. From his lofty perch he appears to gaze down at those beneath him. An excellent image with very good management, the light is especially well balanced.
PS Our Italy holiday was wonderful, thanks for asking and thanks for your comments on my shots.

One simple word/name is all that's needed for a title and explanation here. Clear and succinct, there's no doubt to this sculpture. As John mentioned, some digital noise is visible, but the content far outweighs image quality. Nice white balance, the colors appear natural and warm. This is also a very pleasant angle to best view the dimension and supporting text. Another place on my list of must-see's, thanks for sharing this small slice of D.C. Enjoy the new day. All the best.

The One and Only!
Suitably towering and dominating of this iconic statue, one of the best compositions I have seen, it conveys dignity and gravitas. I love the ambient as the soft warm light suits the capture really well with a gently calming effect and your exposure control is so seamless! A delightful capture and tx for sharing.

When I visited this place on a bright sunny day, there were about fifteen million tourists milling about the place, and there was a sense of mayhem to the place as everybody wanted their photo taken at the statue, and people jostled for view and position. That was quite at odds with my vision of this place (admittedly Hollywood inspired) as being an oasis of calm. Your picture reinstates that sense of this being a place of calm contemplation, and I love that. A beautiful view, and the combination of white light and golden light is really superb. You have shared a view of this place that reality could not afford me!

Hi dear Roger
An impressive monument to an impressive man. One who was well ahead of his time. I really wonder what he'd make of all the nutjobs and weirdoes that currently inhabit the halls of legislature - especially those in his former political party ;) I like the subtle play of light and shade and the grain gives it a sombre quality, totally appropriate for the occasion.
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day
