Photographer’s Note
This small church might not look like much, but it is actually one of the oldest surviving churches in the Americas. Originally constructed between 1606 and 1607 on the order of Queen Isabella of Spain, it once served as a chapel for a Dominican monestary that stood on this site until 1860. The current structure dates from 1692. Despite its simple architecture, it retains a dramatic position at the crown of a long steep staircase overlooking Plaza Santo Domingo in the sleepy town of San German. Simple, but lovely.
