Another view of the picturesque and iconic guard towers that spot the outer walls of the city of Old San Juan. This one, again, is from the fortress at El Morro, the subject of several recent shots.

Good choice of black and white to bring a special mood to the scene and concentrate the attention on the subject. Fine conversion with excellent rendering of the textural detail.

Hello Andrew ,
looking at the thumbnail with the mention "United States" , I was a little intriguing to find such architecture in northern America , But I've forgotten that Puerto Rico is the 51 th state !
It is really a good choice of the B&W to present us this guard tower , with superb contrasts and a perfect framing .

Very attractive black & white image. I like the textures and the contrasts. The tower is similar to ones seen in Portugal. Good catch, have a fine week.

un b&w molto contrastato, il mare č nero e la torretta č ben posizionata e in grande evidenza.
Forse avrei tolto il muro in basso, sembra che distolga l'attenzione per la sfocatura, ma č una mia impressione.

This is a beautiful choice in black and white, it makes the tower look so strong and powerful, but yet also makes it look like a giant chess piece in the sea. The depth of field is perfect too, I love that the foreground is slightly blurred like this. Great composition and a fantastic result.
All the best

Strong drama in monochrome. Is this Dylan's or Hendrix's Watchtower (or maybe the Dead's?) Nice graphic shapes; maybe the shadows a tad blocked up??

Although not an original song by the band, but as a huge U2 fan...your choice of title grabbed my attention immediately! :) With just enough foreground to be blurred by the choice of aperture, the depth of field works tremendously well for this scene and composition. With a lot of gritty texture and black & white scheme, this looks awesome...and the heavy contrast makes it all the more emphatic. It's cliche, but I'll say it anyway...great shot! :) Have a good one. Take it easy.

like this B&W study, the tones and rendering are superb and the presentation just perfect. Great song too! Knew Jason would like this he is, like me, a U2 fanatic, but Hendrix made this song his own really. Wonderful imagery!

Andrew, who gets the credit here? Dylan or Jimi? This is a little dark for my taste particularly the sky. But it is a striking image, reminding me of Myst.

In my opinion it was a great idea to go into B&W Andrew.I wouldnīt say the colors would distract us here, but the monochrome brings out much better textures of the watchtower and emphasizes the strong graphics of the scene.
PS.I donīt know why,but when I saw this picture and its title I immediately thought about Jimi Hendrix song:)actually a great picture to hear to the song "All along the Watchtower".
Have a nice day

This is an excellent b/w subject and you have made it look very dramatic and 'gritty'. The tower is very well positioned in the frame with nothing in the BG distracting. I like this a lot although I might have cropped out the out of focus bit of horizontal wall along the bottom. Very well done, TFS.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Andrew. This strong image reminds me of Dubrovnik and its walls and towers.Great sense of composition and excellent details. The light accentuates the structure while the background is muted. Regards. Klaudio.
