I almost didn't get this shot. My camera's AF suddenly stopped working, inexplicably, just as I saw this man climb up on the top of the wall and approach the edge. I switched over to manual, but on a telephoto it's not always the easiest needle to thread. Luckily I managed to get this reasonably well focused shot off before he retreated off the ledge.
This shot, like so many of my others, was taken at El Morro, San Juan's most impressive colonial fortress.

so Justin Beiber has decided to pack it in...
sorry...just couldn't resist :)
it does sort of look like him though!
this is surely something i stay away from, don't like getting too close to edges like that.
your photo does a fine job in showing the height and the subsequent drop off.
see you around

I'm surprised that it is possible that one can walk up to that edge of the walls. Here in Europe, there would be a fence.
This certainly provides a very nice picture.
Best regards, Paul

What a story! I'm glad to see you still managed to get the shot. :)
The silhouette at the top is truly powerful and there is a story there to be told. It's a great shot but I would also try and make another version by cropping the bottom part off and leaving just the silhouette, a square(ish) part of the wall he's standing on and the clouds.
Have a nice weekend

Good graphic elements and reasonable sharpness under the circumstances. Excellent inclusion of the solitary human figure atop the mighty fortress to give scale and animate the shot as well as providing a good focal point. Good dof too. Tfs!

Great reflexes and quick thinking to grab this spontaneous and superb shot! I would have simply fumbled around trying to figure out the cause rather than take the shot and missed this opportunity to capture a real eye-catching moment.
My palms are sweaty just looking at how close he was. I have a healthy fear of heights, and even one where it involves someone else!? As Craig mentioned, this visual has strong impact...which I'm thankful didn't occur for this young man. Now Bieber on the other hand..... D'oh! Sorry , my evil twin got away from me there. :) Terrific result and composition. Enjoy the rest of your evening. Take it easy.

Great catch here... you were at the right place, at the right moment and was fast enough to get this eye-catching scene!
TFS - congrats,

Well done, it's a great capture of the moment, especially under the circumstances you described! Nice composition and an intriguing title. Great work!
