The Castillo de San Cristóbal is a former Spanish fort in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It was built by Spain to protect against land based attacks on the city of San Juan. It is part of San Juan National Historic Site.
Castillo de San Cristóbal is the largest fortification built by the Spanish in the New World. When it was finished in 1783, it covered about 27 acres of land and basically wrapped around the city of San Juan. Entry to the city was sealed by San Cristóbal's double gates. After close to one hundred years of relative peace in the area, part of the fortification (about a third) was demolished in 1897 to help ease the flow of traffic in and out of the walled city.
This was a difficult photo. If I had used a flash, I would have blown out the walls of the tunnel. Not using a flash guaranteed that the well-lit areas would be washed out. Since I applied heavy post processing to make it look presentable, I am going to upload a copy of the original photo to the WS.

We don't see here too much pictures of Puerto Rico. Interesting to know that the Spanish built their largest fortification on that island.
This is a great view under the arch of a second arch.
I like the shadows on the floor very much as well as the nice warm tones of the columns and of the other parts of the building in the sunlight.
I had a look at the original photo and the colours and the light are much more beautiful on this picture here.
Best regards, Paul

Interesting angled view of the Castillo's classical stone arches, distant tower and a human leaning in the shadow. Puerto Rico is certainly an island rich in history and nature. They request statehood periodically, but so far they remain a territory.
Fine composition and presentation,

merhaba murat bey,

Nice shot o the arches framed through the tunnel with the sunlight creating the repeating pattern on the ground. Lovely warm colours and good sharpness and depth to the shot.
Nice job done with the post processing.

Perfectly chosen the position to show great depth through.
Side light coming from left under the 7 archs, created a wonderful effect on the nice picture.
Good clear image, people around also gave a vivid tone.

You're capturing well this fort by a good composition, a good perspective and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the strong tunnel inside Spanish fort. The light is managed well by shadow-highlight and it's effective for the light inserted from between pillars has projected on the corridor of a tunnel. And, the woman with silhouette who leans on a wall draws out a good atmosphere.

your pp has been very efficient (I remember your great work with one of my "balloon seller" photos:) Here you've managed to exalt the character of this place making the most of the architectural patterns and the play of light and shadows that you had already captured in a very good composition. I like very much the warmth of the light, the way it contrasts with the shadows and the fascinating atmosphere it creates. I don't know if this picture is an artistic interpretation or is closer to your experience of this place, it's just lovely. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

Your note explains very well the context of that photograph.
You obtained a good result, I like the perspective and the soft tones. The interest of the picture is increased by the arcade used as frame.
The result could be better without that annoying sign in the center of the picture.
I will propose you a WS, let me know you opinion.

It is certainly difficult to obtain the correct light conditions with such big contrasts between lighter and darker areas. So it is very interesting to read your note and see the workshops. The view itself is very attractive and pleasant too!

Love your view point and how the shadowed old
passageway invites the eye to wander into this alley that has always actually held a bit of mystery for me. The strong silhouetted fig is just enough effectively to strike the balance and make the shot. Strong on detail, textures, the wall stonework is fascinating with lots of character and atmosphere about this place. Lighting is managed well with excellent color tones and the overall effect is very pleasing to the eye. A nice shot, a place of full of charm. Congrats.
