Photographer’s Note
The Puerto Ricans reverently refer to it as "el radar." To everyone else, it is simply the largest radio telescope in the world. The 20-acre dish, set in a sinkhole, is planet Earth's ear to outer space. The telescope, which is supported by 50-story cables weighing more than 600 tons, is involved in the SETI (search for extraterrestrial intelligence) project and used to prove the existence of pulsars and quasars. Each of the 38,778 panels which form the reflector is individually adjusted to produce a spherical curvature with a 2 mm precision. The reflector weighs 300 tons.
One needs an ultra wide-angle lens to capture it all!

Somehow this photo isn't sexy, but it is very interesting. I had no idea this thing was in Puerto Rico. It looks like something out of a sci-fi flick. It just looks unreal. This is a great informational post. Well done
Sincerely,
Kate
