The San Francisco de Asis Mission Church was built of adobe by Franciscan Fathers between 1772 and 1816 in Taos, New Mexico.
Georgia O'Keefe created four paintings of the Mission and said: "One of the most beautiful buildings left in the United States by the early Spaniards."
"The Church provides an imposing anchor in the middle of the Taos Plaza. It appears like a fortress with thick walls and buttresses that continue to peak interest of artists today. The Taos Village is not a carnival type setting, but rather an opportunity to feel what life looked like in centuries past. The buildings are essentially the same and the pace is much like it may have been in the two hundred years since the famous Church was built."

This is indeed an amazing building and your diagonally chosen point of view helps to convey the scale and grandeur of the structure-it certainly looks imposing.
I love the rounded shapes to the edges and the sloping walls- quite unique. Do you have further views of the interior?
That sky is bluer than blue- to die for!
Thanks for sharing
have a great weekend

Cette église possède une architecture très originale avec ses épais contreforts arrondis. Le point de vue est bien choisi. La lumière est parfaite avec un ciel magnifique. Bien fait.

what an original shape of the church, I have never seen anything like that. The walls have curvy lines and almost absolute lack of the windows is so unusual. I like how it contrasts with the dark blue sky and how its warm color got enhanced by this pretty light. Very good framing.
Thanks for sharing and all the best

Hi Ray, Another beautiful example of adobe architecture. Fantastic colours, specially the white crosses against the deep blue sky. I like these smooth lines. Wonderful place.

An interesting capture of this unique design. The clear dark blue sky created a stunning background for this presentation to make the main subject more visible. Very well done!

The sky in this is really beautiful, so many tones of blue, its like looking at the upper reaches of the atmosphere. Amazing blue, and a perfect composition against it of this wonderfully soft architecture. The white crosses stand out perfectly against the sky. The color scheme and composition give this church the presence of a mighty cathedral.
Thanks as always

I don't understand about New Jersey. ;) I think this is your joke, and nobody told you in their comments. Yes, there is church in New Mexico, no doubt. Impressive contrast between the deep blue sky and the pink walls.

This type of architecture is so unusual and fascinating. I love the crisp colours and lines and how they contrast with the clear blue sky. A wonderfully textured photo with a well-judged vertical frame.
Thanks for sharing, have a great Sunday
