Photographer’s Note
This old dam on the Walloomsac River once power a mill that supported a small community.
Just upstream is the Burt Henry Covered Bridge that probably brought supplies and merchandise to nearby Bennington, Vt.
Another local industry was smelting iron ore. The local forest were full of hard wood trees that could be burnt to charcoal use in the smelting industry prior to the invention of the oxygen furnace.

Hello Tom, a lovely shot with natural colours.
The details are sharp and clear.
I like the way that the river takes our eyes to the distant hills.
The water has made interesting shapes as it melts the snow.
Tfs, regards Jean.

Tom,
This is a nicely composed shot with the angled river leading our eye through the shot. The patterns formed by the melting snow are nice and you have captured them well. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail.

Hello Tom! Incredible how "empty" everthing looks and I was just thinking of the "green" State but amazing enough, one day not far from now, this will be the case again and the rolling hills have a deep green. Very nice mood with the weak light of a winter day. Very nicely composed, totally your style, meanwhile I can tell :))) Have a wonderful day, Barbara.

Hi Tom!
Interesting and beautiful picture!
Excellent composition, adequate sharpness and exposure, nice and natural colors! I really like seeing all those bare trees, the water partially frozen and lots of snow!
This place must be wonderful with autumn colors too!
TFS - Congratulations!
Best regards,

Hi Tom,
A wonderful reminder that spring is coming closer. The melting patches of snow here are very fine elements in this picture and the light is exceptional!
Kind regards

Hi Tom,
Nice looking wide shot, well constructed, it tells the story of the changing season and the trials of generations past. I keep thinking about how difficult it would be nowadays to just build a weir on a river because you wanted to power up a mill. Ha, could you imagine the "greenies", they'd be going nuts.
Not long to go before the first patches of green start appearing.
Cheers
Peter

Hi, Tom.
Perfect exposure and silky quality do great justice to this lovely view. A place that looks damn good now, I can only imagine how it looks in summertime or autumn... Have a good day, y'all. A high-5 paw from Freddie, he's been taught and sure knows what to do when I yell "high 5"! See ya later,
Fulvio.

A lovely blue river flanked by fine naked trees. You chose a good pov so to have the snow in the fg and the curve of the river which adds depth to the image. Lovely colours and lovely cromatic contrasts, white/blue, blue/brown and above all a splendid light that makes everything seems so pure and new.
Well done,
Donato

Hello tom,
a river view brought in warm colours despite the winter conditions.
You integrated the indulations of the snow pack very well. Light very well managed.

It is a beautiful of the river and the dam. The greenish water is a real indication that the water must be quite cold. And the snow complements the idea. Well done.

Hello Tom,
The icy water easily recognizable at water fall while creating white foams and green textures in river bed. Your way adding depth of river and snowy surround is wonderful with naked winter trees. Congratulations. Have a nice weekend.
Friendly Regards,

Hello Tom ,
A perfect timing for this photo, so you have captured that play of shapes of ice and snow, that would disappear maybe the next day.Great colors, nice square frame.
Thanks!

Nice one Tom. I saw this before TE went down for most of a day, before I could comment. The melting ice, or ice being displaced by the flow, is an awesome element in this capture and the texture you have in the snow in the fg is great. Color and crispness is superb as always.

Hi, Tom -
Beautiful mix of water, trees and snow. The colors look true, and the dam forms a nice diagonal with the river as both a counter diagonal and a path leading the eye to the distance.
I was going to ask "why ghost," since the dam is clearly still there. But your note says the reason is the dam is no longer used.
Best,
Dan

Hello Tom,
A classically composed shot using the river for wonderful f/g interest and then allowing it to lead deeper into the shot with its converging, tree-lined banks.
The light and shadows on the snow is well recorded and the preponderence of brown, leafless trees tells a wintery story.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Tom,
A very nice prospect with this incurving river which lead the glance to the mountains in the BG. Nice harmony in the colours too: the snow''swhite, the warm color of the vegetation nad the blue of the sky and the water. Very nice photowork in your gallery.
Have a nice WE,
Roger

hi Tom,
another interesting documentary photo, now only echos of the once-busy place. I never thought that the dams would be the things that would survive the longest. interesting :) the river now looks lazy, especially because you've left a lot of room for it in the frame. nice shot, I like it.
best,
Kristine

Bonjour Tom,
l'hiver a des allures très canadiennes dans le Vermont. J'aime beaucoup cette prise de vue en hauteur qui a l'avntage d'étendre la profondeur de la photo.
Un vue qui contient un plan d'eau est toujours plus esthétique.
Best regards.
Daniel.
