Photographer’s Note
Near Brattleboro Vermont, right out of the center of town on this pond connected to the Connecticut river they ice fish. First they plow a path out to the center of the pond so there is access. Then he huts are brought out. Inside are stoves and heaters. They drive on the ice and park next to the huts. This I think is something that needs sharing with the majority of the planet that lives in warmer climes.
The workshop shows what happens when you leave your bait in the bucket too long...

Hello Greg! This reminds me of Jack Lemon and Walter Matthau when they were ice fishing. Maybe you know the film "Grumpy old men", I love this film, I really do. Your photo gives a nice overview of the scene. Maybe I would have approached it a little closer to see what is happening but then you give us a cool (!) idea in the workshop :))) Just too much, it seems to be REALLY cold. Have a wonderful day, maybe going out again ... Barbara.

Hello Greg,
The most noticeable part of your shot, for me, is the excellent composition. I like how you have created an interesting f/g with the tall grasses, a contrasting flat m/g and then the tall, tree covered slopes as a further contrasting b/g.
The long shadows add extra interest and the the vehicles add scale and colour.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Greg,
Great shot of this frozen lake with the colorful fishing huts. I just don't think I would drive my car out on a frozen lake. The lighting and colors are great with nice sharpness and detail. This scene makes me think of Grumpy old Men.

Hi Greg,
Superb photo with an interesting note from the anglers of the country. The WS is excellent... poor fishes hibernated in the bucket. The snowy environment is beautiful and the composition is attractive. Splendid shot. Have a nice Sunday!

Hello Greg,
More funny than the colored hut on the icy lake, it is the pickup just close. It is something I would have surely not do. I think sometimes you can get surprise doing this :-)
To my mind this activity is not practiced in France, but it is true fishing is regulated a lot.
Nice to have included the yellow grass in foreground, it helps to overcome the wide empty part of the lake and build a deepness effect.
Yves.

Hi Greg,
Great way to beat cabin fever by moving your cabin outdoors (hehe).
Love the play of the shadows on the frozen river bay and the mountain backdrop.

Hi, Greg.
Excellent view featuring a sharp 3 steps build-up, with FG, MG an BG all playing their own most distinctive role in the composition. Great lighting too, with a subtle shadowplay and a few bright splashes of color as a bonus. Cold but COOL! Have a good day, buddy. I'll be seeing you.
Fulvio.

Excellent complement to your previous post. It seems it is almost like a mini-industry. I'm learning something new. Even in our coldest winters the ice is never thick enough to walk on. Only yesterday the news told of a 6 year old boy drowned from doing just that.

Good evening Greg,
The presence of this load on the lake testifies to a good confidence in the thickness of the ice. The light lights the scene in a very pleasant way. Good clearness, superb realization.
Have a nice evening

Hi Greg,
After seeing the details, now you present the wider view. Indeed a great presentation!
It's a very well composed image, you were very clever including the grass on the FG that completes the "surrounding of the lake on this side of the image and balances the hill on the opposite corner. The colourful huts are well placed and I also like much the long shadows.
The funny WS shows clearly the low temperature of the air.
Regards, José.

Hello Greg,
This beautiful view of lake ice, this year seems to come with the winter cold and snow in Europe. I like the WS, very strange image.
Have a nice day.
Best regards,

hey, Greg
didn't realize people do ice-fishing from huts nowadays :)) in my old country a bottle of vodka + valenki + a sturdy puffaika (preferably two of those) would do the job. btw, wasn't it in the US where a bunch of winter-fishers had to be rescued from floating ice a few days ago?
cheers,
kristaps

Hello Greg,
Robert

Hi Greg. This is definitely not the type of fishing I’m used to and this time of year it is the fartherest from reality round here ;-). Nice composition, the dried grasses in the FG add depth and a nice entry into the scene. Thanks for sharing.
Have a good week, Paul.

Hi Greg,
I really like the title - what a nice sense of humor! I guess you are not an angler. Great atmosphere of the lake with very nice colors and light. One can almost feel that it is very cold. The photo in WS is excellent! TFS!

Hi Greg
Indeed this is really something to share. I was once in the area back in the '70's and still remember the beauty of Vermont. Excellent framing and sharp details.
Have a nice weekend and TFS
