Photographer’s Note
East Poultney Green
East Poultney offers an interesting counterpoint to downtown. Here you will find a classic New England village green replete with the white-steepled Baptist church. The green is surrounded by a number of important historical buildings many of which are open to visitors.
The East Poultney General Store, which dates to the 1830’s, is a favorite for residents and visitors. Here you can buy hearty sandwiches made with artisan breads, gourmet dishes, a nice selection of wines and goods ranging from seeds to hunting caps. Down the street is Picket Fence Antiques which is housed in the Horace Greeley house.
The East Poultney green is the site of community events each summer. Band concerts are held here on each summer Sunday evening.
On the second Saturday in August, on East Poultney Day, the village green has the atmosphere of a fair about it, populated with 50 vendors selling antiques, folk art and collectibles. Period songs, games, and stories await visitors. A traditional church supper ends the day and gives one time to rest and reflect on Poultney’s history, and one’s place in the continuity of community. This annual event is organized and sponsored by the Poultney Historical Society.
I'm off to Maine for a week and will bring back some lighthouses etc.

Hey Tom,
I opened the photo with anticipation because of the stunning clouds and sky. It can't have been easy to get the whole church in the frame but it is great to be able to see it all.
Lucky you to have Henk doing a WS for you!! You'll learn a lot from him. I was just thinking that it had a bit of a blue cast and then I noticed that Henk had marked your note useful so I looked at his critique.

Hi Tom,
One thing interesting with this old church is that it is made of wood. It must be some sort of hard wood which could be quite hard to acquire nowadays. Lovely colonial architecture. Well captured from a corner angle ... gives some depth to the building. Well done! tfs
Cheers,

Hi Tom,
Not a bad photo, but is suffers from the right color toning and light on the church. so i removed that blue cast in a workshop, hope you like it.
Have a safe trip to Maine and enjoy your stay.

Delightful PoV -- and I am guessing that the clouds are in your favour here -- white is so hard to work with

Hello Tom,
I like New England architecture, and I've found this church very interesting: I like this POV & perspective, and I only say that I agree with Henk about the excessive blue component, but his WS his better then which I could ever do, so it's enough.
TFS, ciao.
Violetta
PS I'm waiting for your next news from the wonderful Maine...

Great shot Tom, you continue to show photos the bring me back to my younger years in New England and it is wonderful. Your note is also very good. The shot itself is nice and the sky colors are brilliant. What lens are you using for this shot? Nicely captured my friend,

Tom, I almost thought that this was my friend Ed's church but it isn't. So much New England, so much Vermont ... I guess I miss the East Coast after too many cowboys in the West while I was away touring Colorado :) Just joking, it was a wonderful trip. I am glad that you are extending my vacation a litte by bringing in such jewels as this one. Lovely VT sky! I have a similar shot (not as nice maybe as this one) that I might share with TE in one of the posts in the future. I may call it "Ed's church" as he so much into his work without being "churchy".
Have a wonderful day, Barbara.
