Photographer’s Note
to make up for the insanely tilted post from last week, here is something from the first stop during our mini-TE meeting in mid May in Little Compton, Rhode Island. we were a little late for best light on this location, but I thought this particular view with huge rocks in the foreground illustrates nicely why lighthouse is needed here. the sun was almost in the frame, just on the left, you can see that from the shadows of the rocks.
Greg has put together the story about the lighthouse on the horizon - take a look at this photo.

Hi Kristine,
you managed the hard light very well here; the view is beautiful and everything looks well balanced. I like the different tones of blue of the water while the bright green of the moss on the rocks makes a good impact in the compo. A beautiful shot to look at, my compliments.

You managed the light pretty well, i like the presentation of the vegetated foreground of rocks here where biggest one is on the right portion. The contrast of the lighthouse at the distant horizon against the clear sky is an eye catcher. Great shot.

Hi, Kristine -
I can't decide if the horizon is tilted or curved; it looks a bit of both. Nor am I convinced that the lighthouse adds that much, as it is really is too small. However, the foreground makes a lovely image all by itself, and you managed the light very well. The colors on the rocks are lovely.
Best,
Dan

Kristine, nice one, thought it would be better dark and out of focus and with fog but I'll take what I can get... really though it is a great view at the little lighthouse. I had not remembered the colors on the rocks, you did a good job of making the coast into a bright photo.

Kristine,
Great overall view of this pristine beach, I love the feeling of open sky, all elements in the right place for a great composition. Good details on the texture of the rock and the moss on the rocks, the foamy water. The distant lighthouse though small but add much interest to the image. Excellent as always. Thanks

Hi Kristine,
Sculpting a concept to it's beauty is creative, and here, with this amazing landscape, you do it so fine.
The definition of composition has been given a dimension, considering the concepts vision of where and how much each element needs to get prominance, and how it needs to be managed/placed well. A 'click' is simple, but a sensible 'click' is an ardous task ...I love the beauty of the image.
EXCELLENT.

Dear Kristine,
Technical stuff first. There a slight barrel distortion on the horizon, not bad and easy to correct.
The photo; you you are finally to the raw camp, how good to read that ;-) For landscapes it's the only way to go and you did very well here. The colours are deep saturated with strong contrast, espcially in the foreground.
I like also the play with the big rocks in front and the tiny lighthouse in the far back, gives two focalpoints and it's giving it the depth it needs...great..!!!

Hi Kristine.
Don't you just love northeastern coast with its wondeful variety of rich colors and the textured rocky coast.
The colors here are fantasticlly clear with lovely varying tones to the ocean and the tiny lighthouse in the distance makes for a very peacful coastal image.

hi Kristine
I like the elements of rock, plant and water, they always mix well together. The light control is good to avoid very severe harsh shadow as your composed view of the rocks really did not show too much cave-in shadow portion. The lighthouse, even though small, gives a nice DOF to an otherwise plain horizon.
When shooting from low point using wide angle, the horizon tends to curve up or down from optical distortion, that I have seen in some of my shots and I believe it is a minor point.

Hi Kristine,
let's say I wish I took this shot... it's a BEAUTY! Wonderful hues and textures!!!
Shooting in RAW makes a helluva lotta difference, I know, I got to "convert" too... But I'm lazy and not exactly looking forward to convert 50 RAWs everytime I step on my bicycle for a few hours worth of shooting in the countryside. And I don't even wanna think about coming back from the Southwest later on with 1200 or so of those... HELP!!!
Have a great day, I'm starting mine (7.25 AM. right now) with this gigantic problem to deal with...
Cheers,
Fulvio.

Hi Kristine,
you know this scenery reminds Ilha do Mel mainly because of the rock formation and beauty, of course. I myself have some shots from there. Your compo is effective in colors, exposure and sharpness. Everything you need for a great job. Excellent!

hej Kristine I was comparing this excellent image with one Cretense (hercules) posted and what strikes me! it´s the same green sea weeded rocks the same seascape but where Hercules has blended his coastline in to a magic twilight zone you really have flavored your of with saltwater and cool blue breeze like freshly washed white linen and made at least me longing for oysters.

Hi, Kristine. A wonderful capture, as always well composed that is your mark. I agree to the Carlos Belido, this beach resembles a little with the South Brazilian beaches, in special for the presence of these rocks on the seaside. The colors and contrasts are beautiful and the lighthouse'a silhouette is very attractive indeed. Well done. Best regards, Consuelo

Kristine,
AHA, you're now a RAW adept! Verrrry good! You choose the right image to show us your new convertion skills.
Hmmm, total tilted and now straight? However, it isn't completely straight. There is slight lens distortion in the horizon. Easy to be fixed ...

Hello Kristine
You've used the FG rocks to very good effect. The moss covered rocks & the breaking surf, leads us upto the deeply azure sea, leading us to the lighthouse in the far distance which sort of pivots the picture. I'm not much of a photo technical guy & have only heard about RAW & have heard that you can do a lot with it. Is there a slight distortion in the horizon...maybe, not to sure though. But for me it's a very good landscape shot...something I would want to do myself
Best Regards

Hello Kristine,
The seaweed and greenery growing on the rocks is a fine addition to the maritime colour palette!
I like the composition, as the strong foreground interest creates a great sense of depth that is leading my eyes to the tiny lighthouse...
A balanced composition with good colours!

Allô Kristine!
J'aime beaucoup les bords de mer avec des rochers et celui-ci est magnifique. La mousse verte qui recouvre les roches sont un ajout à la beauté de la photo. Bonne composition et bon rendu des couleurs.
Cordiales salutations,
