Photographer’s Note
mini TE meeting on the US East Coast
--
so... here is my sweet revenge for this paparazzi post... our very own trek-earthy american hallmark collector Greg1949 taking aim at this very rhode island light. just look at that hat... at that jacket... at that happy fotographer's smile ;))... um... i know, it's generally not a good practice to let the horizon run through people's heads but here my thinking was that it enhanced the feeling of 'taking aim'.
--
technical note: in post-processing, i enhanced the contrasts a bit and 'warmed up' the foreground with a photoshop warming filter: the light was too harsh for my liking even with the polarizing filter nailed to my lense as pboehringer prescribes.
--
i won't go much into describing the place itself: for greg has done a great job in his note to the lighthouse foto (linked above). but look at the weather. this is what we get when the weatherman promises rain all weekend long... :)
--
oh... i wholeheartedly agree with greg that "if any of you have the opportunity to spend a day shooting with others from here on TE you shoould do it, it was a blast and meeting people that share an interest is always great." thank you too for a great day, Greg :)) peter (pboehringer), watch out! fall is coming ;)

hehee, this is getting fun :) you're right, this is one happy photographer, he looks completely in control of the light, life and everything else. and the horizon does not bother me, I actually quite like how it's level with the line of sight, goes well with the "taking aim" idea. sunny shot from a sunny day :)
and I cannot refrain from pointing to the beautiful POLARISED sky :)
hugs,
K.

Hi Kristaps,
Your revenge is seen in crystal clear colors. Greg looks very happy with a smiling face against the vivid blue sea. Lovely wispy clouds and a salty beach complete this warm tribute to your Treker friend.

Hi Kristaps,
I'm learning all details of your TE meeting step by step and its enviable for me. Excellent portrait of El Señor Greg portrait while his enjoying day. His red hat, blue sea are really eye catching of course with Greg's natural smile pose. Perfectly clear and sharp in natural colors. Congratulations.
Friendly Regards,

Hi Kristaps
So, you upgraded to D300! I read the post by Greg and it was a shot that killed 2 birds with 1 stone...so to speak, AND I hereby declare him as the winner.
Anyway, you are mean too by letting the horzion through his head here, although he is happy smiling at the cause of it.
Nice to have same Nikon users too in the TE group meeting. Or C*n*n (not to let them that group). Only 1 thing puzzling me, not his cap or vest, but the SIZE of that 'incredible hulk' arm.
tfs, bill

Hey Kristaps ;-)
How nice to see Greg in a nice profile shot. Big guy, big smile, seems he had fun when you took this one.
Of course the wrong camera around his neck (where is the lens hood?), but who is to blame, the Canon red from his hat stand proud on top ;-)))

You are funny, Kristaps, and there is nothing that can be done against your camera as it seems, and it does look like you had a nice time, at least he still smiles, or does he only pretend :) Your beach brings me into vacation mood and it is not long that we cross the big wide open ocean (on Thursday) entering high and dry land (Colorado + Utah) maybe bringing home some nice vacation shots, who knows, we will see, I will post, maybe, maybe not, yes I will. All my best, take care, Barbara.

What a great picture!! And a good guy! :) Greg has been most helpful to me,always has good advice and has given me much support since I joined TE. He looks so happy here and I'm sure you had a great time together. Well done!! Have a good day!

Hi, Kristaps -
Remind me to keep a careful eye on you should we ever be on a shoot together. (Or at least dress for the occasion!)
Nicely off-balance shot here. I would have made the frame less stretched, except I see the rock on the right edge that would have been lost with any cropping.
Actually, I hadn't noticed the horizon head-piercing until I read it in your note, which means it's fine. (Or I'm not paying enough attention....)
Best,
Dan

Hi Kristaps,
A sweet "revenge" :) very well done. You should have thanked him for his red cap, that color gives this shot the much needed contrast in my opinion.
Have a nice weekend,
Shaeri

F i n a l l y, someone with a decent camera - a Nikon D200 a n d with a polarizer nailed to the lens. This guy is at least a pro, he knows what he needs to take decent pictures and he is laughing about all the others that use a Canon or don't use a polarizer.
Kristine was very polite in pointing out that the sky is actually making the whole difference of this picture. Additionally I dare to say that our nailed on filter also gave the beautiful color of the sea.
You watch out boy! Fall is my time ... !!!

Kristaps,
It kind of good to know what some of our TE member look like in reality instead of tiny little image on the intro. Great shot of Greg, he should be proud. He is a great photographer and critiquer.
Thanks for this image and you nice comments.

Hehe, that is a nice Canon red:-))). A very nice, bright, colorful image dear Kristaps, oh it just makes me want to take a plane right now and go to this place and enjoy...it's lovely to see some TE people...even when from behind:-). I had ordered a polarizer and they sent me the wrong one...
I am still tight with time, until later soon

Hey Kristaps,
Not only that you share the interest of photography amongst the viewers but you engage with TE members as well amazing bonding of intererst shall I say. One secret in capturing this 'happy fotographer's smile' is the 'genuine' feeling of the intent, having fun taking photos, sharing the same interest and feeling good having the opportunity to meet people.
A different kind of post, no pressure, just simply having fun!
All the best!

well balanced lighting and colors. the red baseball cap of the dude stole the limelight!!

Great shot, Kristaps!
I couldn't care less about the horizon line, I actually like it exactly where it is, on eye-level.
Nice view, wonderful colors and definition, and our buddy Greg boasting his Nikon D300 for Henk's joy, he he! Awesome, I really like it, thanks for sharing!
Cheers,
Fulvio.
