Very interesting composition, but the quality is indeed a problem... I have no idea why it turned out like that -- I would suggest that you post a general question in the "forums" section, specifying which camera/ scanner you used and providing a link to this photo.
I hope this will not discourage you from posting again... Welcome to TE!

Sorry, no idea as to why it came out like this, but I love it. It looks like the kind of shot A L Coburn would have produced way back when, because of the effect and composition.
Even if it were sharp the juxtaposition of the grand and down at heel works well but sometimes mistakes make the best work.
