Photographer’s Note
Taken in the morning..on this particular summer morning there was a good deal of fog along the water in Newport, RI and I took this as it was beginning to lift a bit and the sun was starting to shine through.

Hola Jen, congratulations for your first image in TE .... and welcome.
It is a simple photo but with good details of framing and light, perhaps with a little more of contrast the result would be different.
In any case good work.

hello jen
i know this place well. and... i have to compliment you on an EXCELLENT POV you have found thre. +, of course, the light and the fog... magnificent view! the sky and the sea blend into one, as if the boats were floating in some sort of nothingness.
One hell of an entry photo here... My compliments and a warm welcome to TE!

Hello, Jen.
Firstly, Welcome to TrekEarth!
Now, to your picture.
You have a superb camera there - the Canon 20D - the same as mine!!
The subject looks just fine but I think there's something not quite right with the processing in Photoshop CS3. I have Photoshop Elements 6 which is a much cut-down version of CS3 but it has enough features for the likes of me and anything I might need.
I've done a wee workshop for you - I hope you won't be offended by it and I should be very interested indeed to know from you what you think of it.
You see, this picture is clear and sharp and well taken but it appears washed-out and pale with little or no contrast. It would be nice to know exactly what this view looked like when you took the picture: you say you took it in early morning as the fog was starting to lift.
Without wanting to be critical - I'm just trying to help - it would be worthwhile having a little read about Levels and Histograms in Photoshop - there's dozens of books and articles on the web about it. It's kinda difficult to explain!
As if you didn't have enough to think about: remember that you can post images up to 800 x 800 pixels and with file sizes up to 300Kb. A bigger file size equals better image quality.
Oh, and another cool idea - why not set the time/date on your camera and that way we can all know exactly what time of day you took the shot!
Kindest Regards,
John.

Hi Jen,
i find this capture so gentle and soft...and these two feelings provide me with sense of quietness of early morning when sun just had started to lighten up. I adore this gentle blue tone with white boats and distant fogg circuling between them and the bridge. The only thing I would do here is add white frame. Not because this would altered your capture, no. I would added because this TE yellow-ish background really does unjustice to majority of captures here. I saw tyro's WS and as much as I admire the work he did he lost the feeling of morning. And that means that he lost the essence of this photo.
Kind regards and warm wellcome to TE,
Jeri

Jen,
Welcome to TE, If you can come up with several more photo of this quality, I'll putting you in my yavorite list. :) This one is really great. though it may look over exposed but I think it really provide that special mood, the overcast and mist in the air can cause the overall surrounding to be this way. I actually really like it like this. Sure you can punch up the contrast and darken it but why? Good sharpeness, good composition. Excellent first post. Thanks for sharing.
