Gettysburg is a Pennsylvanian city located close to Washington and Philadelphia. That place is marked by history since that is were one can find major battlefields from the Civil war.
The Gettisburg's battle which started July 1st, 1863 and lasted three days did not end the conflict, but remains the most renowned of the whole conflict between the Union and the Confederate army.
About 165,000 soldiers were part of that battle. General Lee from the Southern states led a 75,000 soldier army, whereas General Meade had about 90,000 soldiers from the Northern territories.
The third day was the decisive one and the most devastating. During two hours, the Southern army will bomb Cemetery Hill. When the fire ceased, the Confederate will launch the "Pickett's charge" which enabled about 150 soldiers to go across the enemy lines but failing to have some support, they had to retreat losing more than 7,000 soldiers.
At the end, The Confederate army will retreat but more than 50,000 soldiers died during the bloodiest fight of the whole Civil War.
Prior to that battle, the Confederate army won several major battles in 1861 and 1862 over the Northern armies. As a consequence, the fate of the USA were at stake in that very geographical area.
During the 4-year war itself, there were 600,000 deaths and 3 million wounded people.
These guys are re-enactors from the Civil War. They play a part to show how life could have been at that time. They were probably training since each year a "Reenactement" takes places in that town starting July, 1st for a major event digging into the American roots.
Cropped, tried to clone out few disturbing elements, desaturated the colors, mixed the color channels and USM applied.

Hello, Steven, glad to have you in the Keystone State! Great shot of re-enactors at Gettysburg. Good note, but the numbers are off a bit. There were about 6,500 killed and another 27,000 wounded at this battle. Around 150,000 soldiers were at this battle. Good sharpness, and good use of b&w.

Good to see this one as I was quite recently reading something about it on the National Geographic web site.
I like the shot but don't really understand the drive that make this guys take guns in their hands, regardless whatever the importance of the event!
Of course, this has nothing to do with your shot that would be seamless only if there was no gun behind the guy in the very front.
