Photos

This was taken last summer during a rainstorm at my parents' house, which is in a very rural area called the Central Susquehanna Valley. I grew up (and still live) in this area, and I've never been at a loss for photo opportunities because it is very beautiful. There is a large Mennonite population here, but unlike Lancaster County, there is no tourist machine to advertise them, so life goes on rather idyllically. Of course, this region suffers the common ailments of most farming areas; family farms can't compete with the huge corporations anymore, and the area is economically depressed, with about 1/3 of the population living below the national "poverty line."

The title is literal; I took this from the side stoop, looking south. Kudos to those who recognize the song!
