Photographer’s Note

A pair of Bald Eagles stare each other down at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh. Bald Eagles are among the largest birds in North America. Bald Eagles are about 29 - 42 inches long, weigh 7 - 15 pounds and they have a wingspan of 6-8 feet. At one time "bald" meant white and not hairless.
The Bald Eagle is the national Bird of the United States. In 1782, Congress declared the Bald Eagle the National Emblem of the United States because it is the only eagle unique to North America.
