Photographer’s Note
This is a 'park' of sorts but not named that I can tell. It's directly across the street from Love Park at 15th and JFK. There are many sculptures of game pieces in this plaza area. But this statue dwarfs the rest.
It is a bronze and granite work from 1976 by Jacques Lipchitz entitled: "Government of the People". It stands over 45 feet tall and represents democracy. If you look closely (and I think it worth doing so if you ever get the opportunity), you'll notice a family of people holding up a young couple. The couple is meant to symbolize hope for the future.
As I was walking around the city this day I noticed the large plaza was completely devoid of people, except for this one woman who was poised beside the massive statue reading a book.

Ciao dear Rachel,
interesting composition with the strange statue that opposes with the architecture of the bell tower. Very pleasant the presence of the woman that reads. I have tried to give a different light to your photo. It's only one interpretation of mine, your photo is also excellent this way.
Ciao, have a nice day!

hi Rachel
So nice to drop by your gallery today.
Let me get it straight. Your profile says you have D200 and D60. So I have to make sure I do not muck around with this girl with such equipment :)
I hope I am not mistaken by asking California's Philadelphia in this photo's location because sometimes the state may have a similar name for a small town [not in Pennsylvania].
In any case, your vertical format is well chosen for this view of statue sculpture and church spire. I quite like your tight crop and putting in good position the woman reading on the bench in bright light. Naturally the blue gradient of the sky compliments the view very nicely in contrast.
Good depth at f/6.3 with sharpness.
Great work!

hello Rachel
3 different elements to compose your original post: the antic, the modern and the woman who let in his book's world !!may be a little too cropped in the left of the woman, but a very good composition !
a nice day for you Rachel
